An exciting opportunity exists for a permanent Orthotist, to join the in-house Orthotics department at Nottingham University Hospital NHS Trust. This is a varied clinical role with inpatient and outpatients clinics in a wide range of disciplines. The team has a strong focus on career development and staff wellbeing. The varied workload and large clinical team makes this an ideal setting to start or develop your Orthotic career.

Main duties of the job

The department is set in an acute trust with a major trauma unit and spinal centre, this creates a diverse patient group. Referrals are also received from GPs and community therapist. all referrals are triaged to the appropriate clinic and there are a number of opportunities for joint clinical working. There is a range of outpatients’ clinics, with appropriate assessment time and dedicated ward time for inpatient work. There is a fully equipped in-house workshop on campus with 6 technicians to support clinical staff.

The successful candidate will form part of a supportive team of 10 Orthotists, 2 assistants, 6 technicians and 7 administrators. The clinicians have access to a Rodin and I-pad scanner. It is an innovative team who work closely with orthotic companies and the wider trust to develop new ways of effectively treating patients.

Multi-disciplinary teamwork is thoroughly encouraged and the department has numerous multi-disciplinary and joint Orthotist clinics. These include Diabetic Foot, Neurology, Paediatric, complex footwear and Spinal.

All Orthotists have weekly in-service training sessions, protected CPD time and are encouraged to participate in service development, both within the department, and in the therapies and rehab pathway.

Applicants must be HCPC registered and preferably members of BAPO.

The majority of clinical activity will be at the Queens Medical Centre and City Hospital campuses, although work in the community may be required. The department is due to move into new, custom build premises on the QMC campus early summer 2023,

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will cover outpatients and inpatient clinics in the acute trust. Inpatient work will be done 1-2 sessions per week, outpatient clinic 6-7 sessions per week and one session per week of CPD. Outpatient clinics include paediatrics, neuro, KAFO, diabetic foot and general clinics, some are joint with other orthotists and some multidisciplinary. All clinicians are encouraged to be actively involved in their own development and the improvement of the department.
